This new track from Koffee, hits the nail squarely on the head. As it reminds Dancehall Music fans why they fell in love with Koffee and her music in the first place.
Koffee Is Coming In Hot Again!!!!
She is an artist whose talent level, is next level. Lyrically adept and skillful enough to make it next to impossible, to compare her to any other artist in Dancehall history.
In fact, while we’re on this point. One of the most intriguing questions, when it comes to Koffee is that of collaborations. In the world of Dancehall, Hip Hop and probably music in general, it’s rare to find women with Koffee’s unique skillset.
Moreover, although Skillibeng already has a place amongst Dancehall’s best lyricists. His new collaboration with Koffee, only reinforces his achievements. As both Koffee & Skillibeng shine bright on Rapid Fyah.
Koffee x Skillibeng = An Explosive Duo!!
Nevertheless, talent gets beaten whenever it is outworked, as the saying goes. Which points to the cold hard reality that is staring the only female to win the Reggae Album Grammy, in the face.
Being lyrical, having a flow that rivals the Caribbean Sea and even getting a hit. Is lightwork for one of Spanish Town’s greatest ever artists. The real question is, does Koffee have enough material/artillery to fire out enough hits to fill an album?
Chris Brown has proved that when talent meets hard work, consistency and resilience, it can eventually even overcome, controversy. Talent tends to become undeniable and success, inevitable, whenever it is married to hard work. Thankfully, Koffee has no real controversy to overcome.
Identity & Output Is All That’s Left To Be Proven.
On the contrary, Koffee arguably only needs two things: output and arguably, a clear identity. It is possible that Koffee may have been the biggest victim of her early success. As this success came at a time when she was still young (19), still growing, changing and finding out who she was.
When Jay-Z and Nas had their Hip Hop beef, Jay-Z famously rapped:
“You can’t give cred, to anything that dude says. Same dude give you ice, and you owe him some head.”
Well, Koffee, became a household name with her classic hit, Toast. Which featured lyrics like: “We nah rise and boast“.
Following her success, there was then lyrics like: “Balenciaga pon me structure“.
Now, music is art, people change and grow and artists should be allowed to express themselves freely in their art. However, the point is Koffee’s world had changed so much that maybe even Koffee, was unaware of the changes taking place. As well as what the significance of those changes would be.
The Million Dollar Question.
The Million Dollar question for one of Spain Town’s finest is, does she know who she is now, what she represents, what her position is in this world is and what the purpose of her music is. As Sizzla would say, these are some serious times that we are living in.
The bright side of all this is, if you know who you are and what you stand for, then navigating the times that we are living in is easier.
Koffee definitely has a gift. The only question is, does she know what to do with it?
For what it’s worth, seeing Koffee be herself again has proven that what we’ve seen thus far, was no mirage. Sis definitely earned and is who we thought she was. No other artist can replace the space that Koffee occupies.
Sis really is in a league of her own. We have no answer to the Million Dollar question mentioned above. All that is clear, is that Koffee’s talent is authentic and that it would be foolish to bet against her.
She’s already done the unprecedented.
For now, we’ll just propose a toast to the Original Koffee being back and hope that there is plenty of new music to come.
