Andrey Petukhov

Jonquel Jones is no joke. Sis is living proof of the fact that dreams do come true.

She recently made history by becoming the first player in WNBA history to win all four WNBA MVP awards: WNBA MVP, All Star MVP, Finals MVP and Comissioner’s Cup MVP.

Jonquel Jones Keeps Adding To Her Resumé!!!!

Just speaking her accomplishments is a mouthful!!! Goodness knows how Jonquel actually feels having racked up all of these achievements!!!!

That is pretty good going for a woman from the Bahamas right? Well, yes and no. The truth is, being outliers, achieving the seemingly impossible, is low/high key the Caribbean way.

A Quick Look At The Greatness Of Caribbean Women.

Consider these other names of Caribbean women for a second: Rihanna, Julian Alfred, Thea LaFond-Gadson, Letitia Wright etc, etc. Coming from relatively small Caribbean countries whilst nevertheless impacting the globe, is the Caribbean way. At least, when you capture our best side or are discussing our brightest and best.

However, what makes each story of Caribbean success beautiful and unique is the different ways Caribbean people find to thrive.

For Jonquel Jones, her place of artistry is the basketball court. When it comes to female Caribbean hoops, no one comes close to Jonquel Jones right now. She is in that number one position right now, bar none.

In other words, Caribbean hoop fans get to shower her with adoration and respect. Which, in itself is an honor and a privelege. Goodness knows the Caribbean despite the sun, sea and sand. Has its fair share of challenges to overcome: crime, climate change, etc, etc.

However, ultimately, the best thing that the success of Jonquel Jones represents. Is the fact that dreams come true. Her example is literal proof that you can come from The Bahamas, win at the highest level and share a special moment with Barack Obama.

What’s pretty funny about this clip is how bold-faced (Caribbean) Jonquel was. As she literally instigated the interaction, by dribbling the ball in Obama’s direction.

Challenging him (in basketball language) without saying a word, to try and guard her. What makes the clip even more hilarious – is how Obama’s responds. Enthusiastically accepting the challenge and proceeding to show Jonquel Jones that he does in fact have notable defensive skills.

It was almost as if Obama’s similarly speechless response retorted that he was a hooper from Chicago and no joke himself!!!!!

All in all, it definitely was a wholesome and positive interaction that is a reminder of our shared humanity and that nothing is impossible. Two things that it is always good for the world to be reminded of.

Hopefully, Jonquel Jones and Barack Obama remind all of us that anything is possible and that it is therefore worth us attempting our own dreams too. That, is all we can ever ask of ourselves.

One thing is for sure, New York City basketball fans definitely have plenty of reasons to hold their heads high these days.
