The Earthquake Still Being Felt By Some Colombians.
The Earthquake in Colombia was an immensely personal thing. Think about it for a second. The Earthquake happened around 7am Monday morning.
A time when most people in Colombia, were in their beds. Then, an Earthquake comes and finds you. Seemingly crawling its way into your very bedroom. Introducing you, or reintroducing you to your mortality and the fact that you could be about to face death.
That, is no small experience. It also, for those of us capable of empathy, is a source of sadness, for those that lost their lives, family, homes, etc.
Colombia Earthquake, A Rude Reminder Of Your Mortality & Vulnerability.
The truth is, part of life, means that death is always a constant possibility. However, most of the time, most of us are blissfully ignorant of this fact. However, what experiencing an Earthquake does is put a permanent, silent reminder in the back of your mind.
That makes you permanently aware that death is always, just one step away.
Nevertheless, the truth is, we are alive. Life does go on. However, we definitely owe a duty of debt to those no longer with us and those who are still with us, but struggling.
Shakira, has set the perfect example, for everybody in Colombia to follow.
A True Queen.
To paraphrase the popular saying, the best friends show up when you need them most. It is great to be able to contribute to the Colombian economy now, post Earthquake.
However, as Shakira just showed. Ideally, it’s all about being connected to the people that need it most. None of us knew that this Earthquake was coming. So we’re all improvising, how we can best respond to this natural disaster. Shakira’s above example, is regal in two ways: she is showing up for her people when they need her most.
Furthermore, Shakira is also setting an example for all inclined to help, of how to do so. That is, by connecting with Colombians in need.
The Million Dollar question probably is, just how do we go about doing this? Well, the answer probably depends on your situation. For those in Colombia, the three main steps probably are: being informed, being connected and lastly, doing your best.
Being informed means, being as aware as you can be of both the problem and the best solutions (charities) helping to resolve the situation.
May Colombia Be More Connected Than Ever.
Being connected, is about being involved with rebuilding (and donation) efforts if you happen to live in a community effected by the Earthquake. Importantly, if you do happen to live in such an area, take some time out to walk or drive around, so that you can connect with positive initiatives, happening in your area.
If, on the other hand, you live in a non effected area, or even overseas. Focus on donating to the best charities, helping Colombia rebuild post Earthquake.
