There is a very real warmth, honesty and vulnerability to Tanya Stephens that makes her so endearing. Tanya never just sang, she sang, talked and joked all night long. Taking things at a natural pace, that was fitting for an artist with Reggae Classics, under her belt.
All of this meant that no messages were lost in translation. Instead, one hundred percent of what TS was putting out, was received. Moreover, one hundred percent of what TS put out – had quality baked into it.
It is always advisable that artists put their truth into the music. However, Tanya did one better, she lived her truth, displaying her authentic self as she performed. Which makes the bond between artiste and fans that much more stronger.
Honesty Is Sexy.
The great part about being authentic, living your truth and representing yourself honestly, is it allows people to figure out where they stand with you. At the end of Tanya’s performance, chances are (if you have a heart) and never stood with her before, you stand with her now.
Why exactly is that? Well, it is because Tanya is very much in touch with her humanity and her femininity. Sis stood on that stage and oozed love, warmth, truth and an exceptional sense of humor. Part of her entertaining, was engaging us and making us laugh all night.
Looking back now, it is clear that that, was a therapeutic experience. Instead of trying to portray a Superstar persona. Tanya was instead a straight shooter. At bat for women, men, the youth and society as a whole. (Maternal instinct for real!!!!!!)
Tanya Stephens, The Medicine We Never Knew We Needed.
To be honest, there is no pleasing everybody. However, for those of us that are inspired to at least try and make the world a better place. It is awe inspiring to see an artist use their platform to try and move society in the right direction.
Moreover, if we look around Jamaica, the Caribbean and the world in general right now. It is easy to see that we need help and more specifically, we need human discussion and interaction.
As alluded to in our last article, us human beings could well do with putting our phones away and having some quality time with each other. One of the great things about Ms Stephens performing is, people rarely did any selfie filming. So as to capture a moment for a social media platform that displayed their presence inconjuction with Tanya’s.
Instead people were fully present in the moment and engaging with Tanya. There definitely was a fair share of filming going on but it was more so to simply capture the special moments that were happening. People simply seemed content with being there, as opposed to proving to anybody else that they were there.
Looking back, this makes perfect sense.
Last night, with Tanya Stephens, and the rest of the performers was definitely, the, place to be!!!!!!!!

It felt like we got an authentic taste of both who the living legend is and who Jamaica is. Reggae Music and Dancehall ran the night. That is, message music and music designed to make you dance!!!!!
Which is a reminder of why Dancehall is so special and liberating. In authentic Dancehall culture, Superstar status is accessible to all because a Superstar is someone that simply can dance exceptionally well.
We got to show up, look good and dance good to some of the sweetest Reggae and Dancehall music ever made.
We got to experience the better side of Jamaica and party the night away to our heart’s content. For the most part people kept it classy. There was classiness, respect and some good memories were definitely created.
This is the Jamaica, that the rest of the world would quickly invest their money in, to ensure that they have a firsthand experience with.
Furthermore, thankfully, Jamaica has no shortage of ambassadors, with platforms to market JA to the world. However, undoubtedly, one of the best ambassadors that Jamaica has is none other than the legendary Tanya Stephens!!!!
