Destra Garcia has such an uncommon level of greatness. There literally are no words, that can appropriately portray the abundance of what Destra, brings to the (Soca) table.
This is probably, a less than ideal way to begin an article. By admitting, an inability of words to capture an important reality. However, Destra Garcia is a living, breathing, work of art. She is, the perfect female Soca artist. Moreover, art, is hard to quantify, or explain.
The Queen of Bacchanal is a known commodity, promoters that book her know they are getting one of the very best Soca products, on the planet. Destra’s catalogue can legitimately go up against any other catalogue in Soca music – and possibly win against them all too.
This in itself, flies in the face of normality. For whatever reason, Soca music, is a genre generally dominated by males. However, she just might, and probably is, the Queen of the whole entire thing (Soca). Regardless of gender.
Now this, is slightly controversial, only from the perspective that no one really has verbalised this yet. However, the honest reality is that Destra Garcia, is the best vocalist in Soca Music. Especially when you factor in the success of her body of work. Apart from Destra, the other comparable, exceptional female vocalist in Trinidad is Patrice Roberts. However, nowadays, Patrice Roberts music, gives Patrice less opportunity to show off her vocal talents than some of her previous work.
Vocal Separation
Compare Destra’s vocals with her male counterparts and the gap is even more profound!!!! So, if you as a Soca fan happen to prioritize vocals over most everything else. You are probably likely to be a huge fan of the Queen Of Bacchanal.
Apart from the vocals. Destra has classic Soca that is guaranteed to put Soca people in, their, feelings!!!!!!! As sweet as 2026 Soca is, (big up Christo and Coutain). Trying to take on Destra’s classic Soca is the equivalent of a mission impossible. Put a different way, Destra’s brand, legacy and standing, is one of the wonders, of the Soca world.
Destra is literally synonymous with Soca. Revered throughout the Caribbean as the Queen Of Bacchanal and even, across the globe. To know her music, is to know Soca and to be ignorant of the QOB and her music, is to admit oneself to be positively outside of the loop.
The Complete Package
What makes the Queen Of Bacchanal stand out more is the fact that we are always outside watching artists perform. These days, every artist loves getting the crowd to sing some parts of their song. With Destra, this is different. The Queen Of Bacchanal does all of the heavy lifting for most of her performance. Tapping in with the crowd only when she instinctively knows it to be best.
Speaking of instincts, people get jump up songs, storytelling, interaction and humor, in timing that can just, never be taught. The Queen Of Bacchanal is the perfect ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago and Soca music as a whole. Moreover, one of the reasons Destra is to a certain degree overlooked is because, she is humble and modest.
She knows nobody is doing what she is doing or could do. She knows she is getting less credit than her work deserves but, it always has been this way. Just like we all know It’s Carnival, should have won Soca Monarch. Her job is to be an artist, make music and perform. It is up to the rest of us that witness her work, to give her, her flowers.
With that being said, the Grammy’s need to have Destra, on their Grammy shortlist. The award ceremony would definitely bolster their brand, by recognizing a living legend like Destra. Moreover, with the Queen of Bacchanal being born in the Mecca and after, the established greatness of Soca Queen Alison Hinds. It is easy for Destra to get overlooked. However, this is 2026, we have video footage (receipts). The truth is, it is anything but close. Destra Garcia is the best complete performer in Soca music, regardless of gender, bar none!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike Hip Hop Music, Soca music (apart from Soca Monarch) is rarely ever about competition. On the contrary, Soca Music is about unity. It is about sharing. Which again is why the Queen of Bacchanal would be the last one to point out how us Soca fans want the most from her whilst, we simultaneously owe her a backlog of flowers.
Destra is the Queen of Bacchanal and the Queen of Bacchanal is second to none!!!!!!!!
