Dear Trinidad And Tobago
Is a heart of love enuh? A famous saying in Trinidad and Tobago, is that God is a Trini. Whilst the validity of this claim can be and sometimes is, disputed. The underlying line of reasoning behind this claim, is still clear to see in December 2025.
The only real concern is, do Trinis themselves realise how blessed they are to be Trinis? Home to the greatest show on earth. The birthplace of Kaiso, Rapso, Steelpan. A twin island republic, with ties to two notable continents (Africa & India). One being the root to which all humanity can be traced. The other being one of the most populous countries in the world and most dynamic economies on earth.
The truth is that Trinis have enough blessings to never have to try to be someone, or something else. On the contrary, being a Trini is more than enough. However, to follow on from the question above. In today’s world of social media and online content consumption, it is fair to question whether Trinbagonian culture is being adequately represented? Is Trini talent, receiving sufficient flowers to where Trinis, have a secure grasp of Trini greatness.
T&T Must Celebrate Every, Single, Win.
If Soca Monarch is going to remain dead in the mud indefinitely, surely, there needs to be a replacement? Whether that replacement is a full or a partial one can be debated but there does need to be some means of publicly celebrating Trinbagonian achievements in the musical realm.
Thankfully, the local media in Trinidad and Tobago are exceptionally great at chronicling Trini achievements in general. However, there has to be more than this because national pride and identity are treasures that are to be protected at all costs. Self esteem and beliefs as it pertains to self, are the exact stuff that success is founded on.
Unfortunately, it is a given that their will be some level of crime and challenges that will need to be overcome. All of which is out of society’s control. However, what is in society’s control is ensuring that there are institutions and mechanisms in place to celebrate Trinbagonian accomplishments.
Also thankfully, there is both a healthy corporate Trinidad (with plenty of accomplishments of their own), perfectly positioned to celebrate Trinbagonian achievement. Hopefully the new government in Trinidad and Tobago can focus on getting this issue right by simply leading and facilitating discussion, between corporate Trinidad and wider Trinbagonian society, in general.
Considerations like, what are the main challenges facing T&T, who are the main most valuable players in Trinbago and how can we appropriately celebrate them, which institutions deserve to be celebrated and what should Trinbagonians be aspiring to achieve together in 2025?
Undoubtedly, all of the above makes for an interesting conversation, that also, can help ensure that T&T and Trinbagonians get things in a gear.
Us being us, we definitely, will like ourselves and enjoy the bacchanal. However, what makes us, us, is that how we play is indicative of how we work.
As we end 2025 and move in to 2026. May Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean region as a whole, work and play hard, to be the very best that we can be.
