The Impressive, Freetown Collective, Left Us In Awe.

Freetown Live Up To Their Name!!!!

Freetown Collective. Those two words mean something. First of all there’s the first four letters in the first word: free.

Then there’s the second word: town. Lastly, you have the word: collective. Which speaks to unity, togetherness and reinforces the collective part of their name. Given all of the above, one would guess that Freetown Collective’s name signifies the Freedom we attain when all come together (with the right energy i.e. positivity).

Maybe, the name was chosen simply because it sounds cool, (lol). Meaning, it has absolutely nothing to do with the above. Regardless, what is certain is that, Freetown Collective definitely live up to their name.

Love over everything else” is the ideal that Freetown aspire to live by. Having seen the dynamic duo perform live, the pair definitely bring a positive and inclusive energy with them when they perform!

One of the things the pair love to do of late is to pay tribute to David Rudder by covering the classic, High Mas!!!!!

Freetown Collective indeed!!! If there was a way to collect Trinidad Tobago and get Trinbagonians to be as one, High Mas is an excellent way to do it. King David’s High Mas lyrics, also speak to people being free. So the song definitely is in line with the very name, Freetown Collective.

Moreover, Freetown’s music is at its very core: uplifting. One of their latest hits: Kaya, is basically a love song to women. Perhaps, a local, Rasta woman, who knows? Nevertheless, this is less important than the type of song it is i.e. love song. Soca, Trinbago, the Caribbean and World as a whole, definitely need more love songs.

Life in Trinbago and the Caribbean can be tough, therefore the song is literally watering a thirsty garden. Women, need to hear men singing love songs aimed at them. To affirm that men recognise them completely, beyond just the physical. Men need to see other men express their love to women and everybody wins because the best way of us overcoming our challenges is through togetherness.

We Up Now.

Positive Patriotism

Another piece of positivity is Freetown Collective’s tune, We Up Now. With Blak Gold, Preedy and College Boy Jesse. It is a motivational and positive tune for everybody, regardless of gender, background or age. The track is celebratory, about winning and being successful.

Which reveals a common theme in Freetown’s music. Namely that of positivity being used to share a timely message to help Trinbagonian’s be their best selves. Like Kaya, We Up Now, is designed to spread some positive vibes to Trinbago, to help the twin Republic be where it needs to be. If there are two words that come to mind when it comes to Freetown Collective, those words would be: positive patriotism. Serving Trinbagonians via positive patriotism is what Freetown Collective do. If you need proof, or an example of this, look no further than their song Mas, with Mical Teja.

Where the duo, (quite rightfully) take time out to express gratitude for being Trinbagonian.

The positive patriotism in Freetown’s music, comes all the way to the forefront with their hit song, take me home. That song is guaranteed to strike a chord with any Trinbagonian with a pulse, figuratively speaking, as well as any patriot anywhere too. Whilst Trinbago and the Caribbean certainly have their share of problems. At least those problems can be addressed within the context of home.

The song speaks to a truth, that every true Trinbagonian or Caribbean person will innately understand. All of the songs mentioned above (apart from Mas and the David Rudder High Mas tribute) are featured in the following video. Which is a must see for any Trinbagonian or Soca Music fan. Watch this video, it helps explain Freetown Collective perfectly.
