Shal Marshall & Kerwin Du Bois Show Why Soca Friendships Are The Greatest

Especially without Soca friendships, the world can be a cold place that forces us to all act tough. At the end of the day though, most of us know that real (Soca) friendships are priceless.

In this article/post, we’d like to focus on Soca Music and the type of relationships and people the genre tends to open up Soca fans to.

Shal Marshall &Kerwin Du Bois’ Show Soca Friendships Last!!!!

Shal Marshall and Kerwin Du Bois shared that they went to the same school. Almost two decades after the pair of Soca Superstars collaborated on their hit, Gyal farm. The two were again linking up to perform their brand new hit, Document We. A song about Soca people bravely and without care, flaunting and showing off their Soca ways.

Whilst there are still people unaware of Soca. Shal Marshall and Kerwin Du Bois have lived Soca all their lives and they know firsthand that Soca is a genre to be proud of and shared, with the whole world.

Kerwin Du Bois and Shal never said exactly how long they have known each other but, their relationship shows how Soca friendships have a tendency to stand the test of time. The pair also are both a testament to what their shared love of Soca has personally done for them. Both men have achieved fame, success and clearly are still going strong.

Kerwin Du Bois and Shal Marshall are both examples of how Soca Music adds value to the lives of all who love it.

When you come from the Caribbean, there always are sterotypes or stigma that one has to face. Jamaica, both inside and outside the Caribbean has long been viewed as a place that battles with issues of crime. For Caribbean people that love to party, the perception has always been that trouble is less likely to be found at a Soca party.

Soca music, has long been known as happy music. Music for celebrating as the term fete, (a Soca party) alludes to. In actual fact, the realistic threat one has to face when attending a Soca party is actually that the DJ or DJ’s might be sup par or, the people at the party are just holding up the wall instead of really partying.

However, probably like all parties, an epic Soca party is an idyllic place, where all boundaries cease to exist. Everybody acts as though they are all part of the same tribe and both alcohol and conversation flows freely whilst connections are quickly made. Again, this may and probably does happen, at parties where there is no Soca music but, Soca Music certainly seems like more of a wing woman, or wing man, than other genres.

Whether it is Soca Superstars like Kerwin Du Bois or Shal Marshall. Or just everyday Soca music fans, having the happy music (Soca) in common seems to go hand in hand with having really good relationships amongst Soca people. Why is that?

Soca Music And Positivity

Well, Soca music tends to put out a lot of positivity. Just look at Machel Montano, e.g. (H.M.A. Happiest Man Alive, his Bazodee film), a certified poster boy of Soca.  Teddyson John, with songs like Allez and Stress Free has carved out a lane where a clear stream of positive Soca Music has been put out.

Destra Garcia, the Queen Of Bacchanal and Kes The Band both have a long list of positive Soca songs that spread joy and happiness with songs like It’s Carnival, I Dare You, Hello and Wotless.
To be sure, the truth is pretty straightforward. Having Soca in common with people, is to a large extent like having positivity in common. As the saying goes, it takes two people to Tango and Soca people tend to all be, on a positive wavelength.

Soca Revellers or Feters main motivation for attending a Fete is to have a good time. When all parties are truly motivated by this same goal, the Spirit Of Soca abounds and perfect strangers move as one. This is the true essence of Soca and it is a really beautiful thing especially, when the scope of people being moved by the Spirit of Soca increases, as the power of Soca, grows beyond local or national, to regional and even global.

When people internationally, or globally are motivated by Soca to come out and have a good time – whether for a Carnival or Soca event. The beauty of Soca’s tendency to facilitate connection, can be seen more vividly as Soca comes into contact with humanity. Even though Soca music has clear ties to the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago is known as the Mecca of Soca). Soca Music has always had relevance to humanity as a whole with its central purpose of spreading joy and uplifting the human spirit.

We are all simultaneously, local and global and the same is true of Soca music. Soca, may well be the best kept secret in music, because Soca music is a genre specifically designed to add value to the lives of its fans. Soca music, is a music designed to bring human beings together in positivity.

This can in terms of friendship or, more (romance). So while Soca may be, less popular than other genres. It really might be the best kept secret because people who are unaware of Soca are missing out on Soca as a relationship plug. Put a different way, they are missing out on the social aspects of what Soca brings to the table.

Nothing symbolises this more than Carnival. A time where Soca really is in global mode. During Carnival time, Soca is at the height of its powers and influence, as thousands and tens of thousands of people choose to subscribe to Soca and its values. Breaking away from normal habits and expectatations and instead living life as Soca Music would dictate. In a more carefree, open, accepting way that celebrates and values our shared humanity.

Soca music, is a demonstration of what human beings can create, when we are all moved by the power of Soca Music.
