Our Song by Song Review Of New Album 5ive by Davido

Davido Did Good. The 5ive Album Deserves 5 Stars

  1. 5ive

5ive is a spoken word track that reveals why Davido chose to name his album 5ive. The connection between the number 5 and Davido’s name and King David of the bible is drawn. 5ive is Davido’s fifth album. All of which, should prove very interesting for anybody into numerology and spoken word.

2) Anything

Anything is a philosophical song. A song through which Davido, addresses the struggles of life. There is a saying, we have in the Caribbean -anything is anything – and that seems to be the main message of the song. Presumably, Davido accepts the good with the bad and ultimately resolves to his best with his life and then let, anything be anything.

3) Be There

Is like a more uptempo, Amapiano version of Anything. Davido also injects more passion in this song through his voice. The beat goes crazy and the ever wise Davido, lets the beat breathe and shine, alongside his vocals. This track feels more suitable for the club. It is a feel good song that is again, philosophical, yet it would be welcome at a party all whilst speaking to the grind of life’s challenges.

4) CFMF

Is a feel good Amapiano love song, from a man who is successful and free to spend his time, money and power on proving his love, to the object of his desires. The hidden message in this song? Perhaps, that Davido “get money and has no need to hide his face” instead, he can boldly pursue love.

5) 10 Kilo

10 Kilo is a song that is about two main things: love and vibes!!!! The song is about a man, who is in love with a woman, the one. This woman is Davido’s muse and in this song Davido expresses his love for this muse. In doing so, Davido expressing his love lets the listener feel what Davido is feeling for his muse. Ultimately, in a sentence, 10 Kilo is a feel good love song. Or, a love song that feels good.

6) Offa Me Ft Victoria Monét

On this song, the theme flips as Victoria Monét, sings: come take this Offa Me. As the song continues, it is clear that the 30BGmance continues with this song. Victoria’s vocals brings some RnB vibes into the mix. Which ensures that the 30BG Boss can kill two birds with one stone by remaining on theme (30BGmance), whilst also switching things up, with the inclusion of Victoria Monét.

7) Don’t Know

Davido continues the theme of love. In his recent interview on the Breakfast show Davido mentioned that he was done with cheating and locked in on being the best husband he can be. This sentiment rings true on 5ive, as love is the main theme of the album. Don’t know, might be the best love song on the album. Feel free to let us know what you think via our contact form, or however you choose?

8) R&B FT Shenseea & 450

David keeps fans on their toes as RnB stands for Reggae (instead of Rhythm) and Blues. Davido’s flow on this song goes crazy!!!!!!! As David matches the versatility of the sweet Xylophone infused beat. Shenseea and 450 likewise body the beautiful beat. Davido’s singing vocals on the song ensure that RnB is likely in everybody’s top five of the Album 5ive!!!!!

9) Awuke FT. YG Marley

In Awuke, David returns to the 5ive Album’s central theme of 30BGmance. To keep it interesting and fresh, Davido again uses his mastery of Amapiano. David also enlists the energy and addition of YG Marley. The production on this one ensures that music fans stay satisfied, as Davido sets himself apart from his peers with beats that are simply captivating, hypnotic, (in a good way), that makes the listener feels the sweetest emotions.

10) Holy Water FT. Musa Keys & Victony

Holy Water is super melodic.
It features Musa Keys and Victony.
It is Amapiano.
The beat is ridiculous!!!!
Davido plus Musa Keys and Victony (who all understood the assignment) have successfully created a top tier Amapiano/Afrobeats modern love song 30 BG Style!!!!

11) Nuttin Dey

Is a song where Davido again addresses the reality of life struggles, haters and his determination to keep on progressing regardless. As the saying goes, empty bags make the most noise: nuttin dey!!!!

12) Titanium FT. Chris Brown

David and Chris Brown link up again but on this one the theme is strength and being as strong as Titanium. Melodic motivation, is what this song brings to the life of the listener. Chris Brown opens up his verse with a sentence of self love. Melodic motivation and self love!!!! For this reason, Titanium arguably gives the listener the most out of every song on this album. Obviously this is subjective but….for this reason Titanium might be our favorite song from the Album 5ive!!!!

13) Lately

The Amapiano keeps on coming. The Violin puts the listener in their feels. Lately has more of a cool, calm, more chill vibes. The songs seem to be about love again but this time, it sounds like Davido is singing about a love that he has been missing so much so, that he had to express those feelings for the sake of his sanity. Love is a big part of what we do here and we welcome Davido putting out a love themed album like 5ive. After all, few genres can do love songs like Afrobeats.

Tek FT. Becky G

On this song Davido shows off his versatility and the extent of his musical pallette and creativity. By partnering with Becky G, David makes sure that he has a partner in crime that is sure to kill the song.  This makes a lot of sense because the song has a ridiculous amount of international appeal because of Davido, Becky G and the fact that the song samples a pop classic.

15) Funds FT. Odumodublvck & Chike

With Funds, Davido continues the album’s main theme of 30BGmance (30 BG romance). Davido is the man famous for singing: 30 billion for the account!!!! With 5ive, Davido gives the listener that same energy in a brand new and melodic way. This could also be the best love song on the album. We all can surely debate this.

16) Lover Boy FT. TAYC & Dadju

Obo is proving to be the biggest certified Lover Boy since Drake!!!! Tay C and Dadju both understood the assignment!!!!
The french element is mind blowing (Tay C surely delivered!!!! In the song, David reflects on how he used to be the baddest boy but now, he be lover boy.

With You FT. Omah Lay

With You featuring Omah Lay is for Nigeria!!!! Okay, okay, that may sound like hyperbole because Davido, is Nigerian. A proud Nigerian, so therefore, every single song on the album is for Nigeria. However, With You is for Nigeria in a different way as the melodic vocals of Omah Lay, compliment those of David. Allowing Nigerians a moment to get lost in rhythms and harmonies created by some of the best musical talent, Nigeria has ever known.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Davido has given music and specifically, Afrobeats fans, a full course meal to digest with this album.

The main theme of the album is love. Specifically, that 30BG ish, that 30BGmance!!!! In dropping such an album David has expressed his truth. For he is a married Billionaire, so love and money has to feature heavily in any album that is an honest reflection of David’s life.

Dealing with adversity and remaining resolute in the face of life’s burdens is also one of the main themes of this album. As we have said before, Davido is a rare artist that knows how to execute and package the music he makes. Which is why the artists featured on this album all come across as flawless, as does every single beat featured in 5ive.

For these reasons, it is next to impossible for any music lover to fail to thoroughly enjoy Davido’s 5ive Album. Daniel Regha notwithstanding.
