Remembering When The News Broke.
On the 22nd Of October, Sporting News wrote an article discussing the selection of Bad Bunny, to perform at the Superbowl.
Straight away, the reaction for us, when we heard the news, was happiness and joy!!!! This is because, we have long been fans of Bad Bunny’s music. BB to us, is the number one artist on Earth. Why you may ask, well, he puts out the best music!!!! It’s always, about the music for us and probably always will be.
Nevertheless, asides from being BB fans. This was great news because Bad Bunny is an amazing ambassador for Puerto Rico.
The funny thing about success is you work so hard to achieve it and then when you finally do you still have to keep working hard. Almost as if, none of your hard work counted beforehand. Despite this and the other difficulties that come from being successful, Bad Bunny still prioritizes Puerto Rico.
The truth is, Benito has no obligation to prioritize Puerto Rico. He could easily reason that he has already done enough and simply rest on his past laurels of good deeds, done for his island. Instead, El Malo Conejo, continues to show Puerto Rico love. The harsh reality is that if many of us had Benito’s level of success, the only thing we’d be prioritizing is ourselves. So, for these reasons, celebrating this Superbowl, is a priority!!!!
Bad Bunny & Island Pride.
Seeing a Caribbean artist, perform on arguably the biggest stage in the world, at the height of their powers is such an historic event that our (bacchanal/carnival) world will be put on hold for it. Benito’s achievement is so rare, so precious, that it is simply unmissable.
For that one day, (February 8th) we will stop studying what to drink at which fete and instead study what to drink at which sports bar. (Is that not growth)? (Looool). Again, BB, arguably has the best music on Earth right now. So the plan, is to take in the performance (with some alcohol and good company) as we watch history unfold.
As mentioned in a previous article, we are well aware of Bad Bunny’s musical genius and catalogue. We fully expect BB to score a touchdown with his half time SuperBowl show.
What has been a surprise though is the juggling act that we have to perform en route to Bad Bunny’s Superbowl performance. Back when the announcement was first made that Benito would be performing at the Superbowl. We never quite realised that this would actually end up being right in the middle of Trinidad’s Carnival season!!!! In actual fact, the gap between Bad Bunny’s performance and Trinidad Carnival, is just eight days.
Balancing Bad Bunny & Carnival, At The Same Time.
Ironically, if Bad Bunny found himself having to balance his world tour, with having to include preparing for his performing at the Superbowl. We ironically have to now include watching the Superbowl, in addition to, our Trinidad Carnival 2026 plans. Ultimately though, it still, is a welcome “problem” to have.
However, there is just one thing we’re going to be doing to try and maximise the enjoyment we get from Bad Bunny’s Superbowl performance. We’re going to be tightening up our knowledge of Bad Bunny’s music by going to www.letras.com to listen to Bad Bunny’s music.
Letras is a music translation website that works for: Portuguese, Spanish and English. On this website, people that only speak English for example, can listen to Bad Bunny’s music and see the lyrics translated in English. By using this site an English speaker can read what Bad Bunny is saying in Spanish whilst also seeing the meaning in English. After a while, normally only a few listens, a non Spanish person can be singing along to Bad Bunny’s lyrics as though they, were the ones that wrote them.
Non Spanish speakers being able to personally discover and experience Bad Bunny’s musical genius for themselves is meaningful and a lot of fun. Sort of like how Bad Bunny’s performance at the Superbowl will be.
However, are Bad Bunny and the NFL leaving money on the table????????
El Malo Conejo and the NFL are two of the most premier, trending brands on the planet right now. Surely there needs to be a symbol, a product that reflects this and enables both parties to make some money from this reality too???!!!
We’d argue that there needs, to be a Bad Bunny NFL Jersey. The population of Puerto Rico is approximately 3,231559. Moreover, roughly 5.9 million Puerto Ricans live in the US. Basic math dictates that in total, there are roughly, more than 9 million Puerto Ricans living in the US and Puerto Rico.
Newsweek, referred to Bad Bunny as the most popular American on Earth. Furthermore, If you take a look at Bad Bunny’s fanbase numbers on the musicmetrics vault website, you can see that Bad Bunny’s hold on the Spanish speaking world is profound!!!!!!!!!
According to this website, he approximately has over 100 million followers (presumably across different social media platforms) and over 77 million monthly listeners.
Additionally, the NFL, has approximately more than 100 million fans in the US. Outside the US, there are approximately at least another 50 million NFL fans.
When you crunch all of those numbers above, it is hard to escape the strong perception that both Bad Bunny and the NFL are leaving money on the table by failing to produce an NFL Jersey for El Malo Conejo. That Jersey would automatically become the default attire for people to wear, whilst watching the performance.
What’s more, both parties could double or even triple down on their money making collaboration by producing Jerseys more suited for female fans. (Obviously BB has his fair share of those). But there could even be baby jerseys. That would ensure that this merch would be selling for a long time and help both brands start their relationships with the latest generation.
Dear NFL and Bad Bunny, we need those jerseys!!!!!!!!!
